The 11 Best Breakfast Burritos in Columbus

by admin

The breakfast burrito might just be the perfect food. It takes all the great things about breakfast – eggs, meat, cheese, veggies – and rolls them into the idea delivery system. It’s making me hungry just to write about them, so here are 11 of the best breakfast burritos in Columbus!

1. Mordisco

Address: 303 Green Meadows Dr. S., Lewis Center (at Olentangy River Brewing)

Mordisco moves around central Ohio a bit, but they’re most consistently found at Olentangy River Brewing Company, Tuesdays to Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. On their winning menu of arepas, bowls, and empanadas you’ll find an excellently composed breakfast burrito. It’s loaded with bacon, scrambled eggs, tater tots, American cheese, and avocado, then served with their cilantro and spicy sauces on the side.

2. Emmett’s Cafe

Address: 744 S. High St., German Village and 2571 Neil Ave., Old North

Emmett’s serves up a lot of delicious breakfasts, but their breakfast burrito might be my favorite thing on the menu. They wrap a flour tortilla around scrambled eggs, avocado, monterey jack cheese, prosciutto, crispy tater tots, with a chipotle aioli and side of salsa.

3. Tula Taqueria

Address: 525 Lazelle Rd., Westerville/Polaris

Tula Taqueria is a family-runs spot on Lazelle Road, just south of Polaris Parkway. You can’t go wrong with their tacos, tortas, taquitos, and platters (I’m especially partial to their chorizo and adobada), and they incorporate some breakfast items, too. Their breakfast burrito incorporates your choice of meat (I suggest the chorizo) with eggs, cheese, potatoes, cilantro, and sour cream in a flour tortilla.

4. DK Diner

Address: 1715 W. Third Ave., Grandview

DK Diner does many things well, from their hearty breakfasts to some of the city’s best donuts (that sour cream old fashioned, mmmmm). Their monster breakfast burrito is loaded with three scrambled eggs, two types of cheese, hash browns, sausage, onion, pepper, and salsa.

5. Freedom a la Cart

Address: 123 E. Spring St., Downtown

At Freedom a la Cart, you can get delicious breakfasts that support an amazing cause: providing employment and resources to survivors of human trafficking. My favorite item on their small but mighty menu is the breakfast burrito. It’s a flavorful and beautifully composed package of eggs, chorizo, hash browns, and provolone with roasted peppers and onions, served with a rich tomatillo salsa on the side.

6. High Bank Distillery

On top of its award-winning spirits, High Bank serves a creative brunch with dishes like breakfast corn dogs, nachos, chicken and biscuits, and the Brunch Wrap Supreme. Their breakfast burrito is top-notch, filled with brisket barbacoa, scrambled eggs, cheddar, hash browns, black beans, pico de gallo, a roasted tomato salsa, and sour cream.

7. HangOverEasy

Address: 1646 Neil Ave., Campus and 51 Parsons Ave., Olde Towne East

HangOverEasy is known for their filling and sometimes over-the-top breakfasts. They started simply on Neil Avenue, but added a Parsons location and then expanded beyond Columbus in recent years. Not to be missed is The Dirty, their giant breakfast burrito packed with scrambled eggs, a house-made chorizo, home fries (dubbed “Hoe Fries”), and queso, all wrapped in a flour tortilla and served with cheddar, pico, and crema.

8. South of Lane

Address: 1987 Guilford Rd., Upper Arlington

South of Lane is such a delightful little gem in Upper Arlington, a cozy spot with a sense of humor and creative breakfasts to match. Their Brickhouse Burrito features a house-made SOL omelet (peppers/onion/pepperjack/pico de gallo) with hash browns, chili, cheddar, more pepperjack, and sides of avocado, sour cream, and pico.

9. Cuco’s Taqueria

Address: 2162 W. Henderson Rd., Northwest

It often surprises folks that Cuco’s serves breakfast! It’s been a popular spot for lunch and dinner for many years, but you can start your day early with them. Amongst the menu of huevos rancheros, machaca, moyetes, and chilaquiles, you’ll find an expertly prepared breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, cheese, and chorizo, served with pico, sour cream, and more potatoes on the side.

10. Heirloom Cafe

Address: 1871 N. High St., Campus (inside the Wexner Center)

Heirloom Cafe is a hidden gem on the lower floor of the Wexner Center, serving a vegetarian- and vegan-forward menu (although there’s meat involved, too!). Their signature Eye Opener burrito is a zesty mix of scrambled eggs, herbed potatoes, chorizo, sharp white cheddar, and Frank’s Red Hot in a whole wheat wrap with a little side of salsa. There’s a vegan version, too!

11. Jack & Benny’s

Address: 2563 N. High St., Old North

Ah, Jack & Benny’s. The classic campus diner that’s been serving hungry students for more than 30 years. Their menu is filled with hearty favorites like the chorizo scrambles, buckeye pancakes, and my personal favorite, the all-inclusive Gutbuster. Their chorizo breakfast burrito is loaded with eggs, chorizo, tomato, onion, green pepper, beans, then topped with, sour cream, avocado, and salsa.
