Last week Franklinton gained a new watering hole with Sweeney’s Walnut Street Tavern! The project comes from Jim Sweeney, the unofficial mayor of Franklinton, who’s long had a hand in various projects around the developing neighborhood, including 14 years as the Executive Director of the Franklinton Development Association.
The tavern was previously Sweeney’s home, and is one of several old homes lining Walnut Street that are being converted into commercial uses, from restaurants and bars to live music venues and apartments.
Sweeney’s features an indoor bar, upstairs space, and front and back patios.
On the opening night, visitors enjoyed music out back from Lydia Loveless and Joey Aich.
We were fortunate to be there the moment local artist Andrew Lundberg hung the sign for Sweeney’s out front!
Sweeney’s is open Monday-Wednesday, 4-10 p.m.; Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight; Friday-Saturday, 1 p.m. to midnight; and Sunday from 1-10 p.m.
