Royal Flamingo Coffee is set to open its new coffee shop on Friday, July 5 inside I Like It Like That cocktail bar! The bar itself is an extension of Natalie’s in Grandview, tucked into a corner that’s accessible through the main bar and off the covered patio.
Royal Flamingo owners Bryan and Beth Brzozowski launched the roastery in 2021, adopting the slogan “Serious coffee for unserious people.” Their focus is carefully sourced coffees that are processed in a variety of ways, offering roasts for both casual coffee drinkers and those with more adventurous palates. And their attention to detail has been rewarded! Over the past couple years they’ve earned multiple bronze medals for their roasts at the Golden Bean North America competition, and last year they took home a gold for their CM Red Fruits espresso.
With their roastery located in a space behind Natalie’s, they eventually connected with owners Natalie and Charlie Jackson, and as the cocktail bar came to fruition, they partnered to open the coffee shop there during the morning and early afternoon.
Even from our one preview visit, we can see how Royal Flamingo’s menu is one of the most unique in the city, while still – by design – being very approachable. The menu is split into two sections: Daily Greats and Super Fun. So you can try everything from a classic batch brew to one-of-a-kind espresso to a variety of lattes to cold brews.
We tried a couple samples of the cold brew, the chocolately Popayan Reserve and the funky, fruity CM Red Fruits.
Here’s a quick peek at the seasonal Tara Go Go latte, using their Lady Go Go espresso and a touch of tarragon.
You can taste a couple different espressos, too, currently a naturally processed Kenyan roast and their award-winning CM Red Fruits.
Personally, I love the Barita’s Boilermaker (like a shot and a beer!) and the Barista’s Breakfast.
The Barista’s Breakfast features a pre-selected shot of espresso, a flat white, and some of the batch brew. It’s the perfect overview of what Royal Flamingo has to offer.
Each breakfast comes with a small menu with tasting notes and descriptions.
Kudos to the choices of glassware and ceramics. Everything is beautifully presented.
