Friday Food Bites: Mission Coffee returning to Short North, Adelaide’s closes, Silav Cafe opens

by admin

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • On social media recently, Mission Coffee Co. teased a return to its original store at 11 Price Ave. in the Short North. More specific details haven’t been released, such as a timeline or the state of its coffee shop and roastery at 2060 S. High St.
  • After less than a year in business, Adelaide’s Gin Joint in the Old North has closed and the business is up for sale.
  • A new Kurdish restaurant called Silav Cafe & Grill has opened downtown at 330 S. High St., in the former Bonjour Cafe storefront. It’s currently open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with a grand opening coming on Aug. 11.
  • The owner of Lifestyle Café in Olde Towne East shared that the business would be transitioning in some way over the coming days. It’s unclear if it’s a new iteration of the business or a closure. Chef and owner Shanna Dean said the cafe would run limited hours and menu this weekend, Aug. 3-4. (Read more about the cafe in my 2022 feature on for Ohio Magazine.)
  • A new fried chicken spot called Overdose Hot Chicken soft opened this week at 3260 W. Broad St. in the Hilltop. A number of residents and some local officials have complained about the name, especially given the restaurant’s proximity to addiction treatment centers nearby.
  • La Loma Mexican restaurant celebrates its grand opening this Saturday, Aug. 3. It’s located at 3051 Northwest Blvd. in Upper Arlington. This joins locations in Akron and Canton.
  • The owner of Zammy’s Vegan Kitchen announced that the plant-based eatery will be closing after business on Saturday, Aug. 2. Zammy’s is located at 1155 Worthington Woods Blvd.; it opened in the spring of 2022.
  • It’s been confirmed that Korean fried chicken chain CM Chicken is opening a fourth central Ohio location at 1011 W. Fifth Ave. in the Fifth By Northwest. It’s slated to open sometime this fall.
  • Multiple sources have reported that Three Creeks Kitchen & Cocktails will replace the former O’Toole’s Irish Pub at 258 Granville St. in Gahanna this fall.
  • The Peanut Shoppe downtown has closed for regular hours in preparation for a move across Capitol Square under new owners. The shop will still be open for pop-up hours related to downtown events. (Read more about the shop and its history in my post on Ohio.org!)
  • I don’t know how I missed this, but G’s Shepard Springs Café opened a few months back at 900 Sunbury Rd. in the Shepherd neighborhood.
  • Ohio’s sales tax holiday kicked off this week and runs through midnight on Aug. 8. This year the holiday was extended from seven days to 10, and includes restaurant dining (but not alcohol purchases).
