Recently I was fortunate to appear on the All Things Beer Podcast! It’s hosted by Pat Woodward of Pat’s Pints and Mark Richards from Land-Grant Brewing. They’ve been hosting the podcast for a few years now, and have covered a wide range of topics.
I had recently run into them at the opening of Species X Beer Project and joked that they needed to have me on to talk about breakfast stouts, so on a snowy Saturday morning we gathered in their podcast studio to sip stouts and taste donuts!
We fittingly tasted a mix of breakfast stouts paired with Buckeye Donuts! I brought a couple selections from my hometown favorite, Founders Brewing, including some of my all-time picks, their Kentucky Breakfast Stout and their Canadian Breakfast Stout. Pat brought a little bit of Ohio to the game with Maumee Bay Brewing’s Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout, as well as a bonus sour from Michigan’s Jolly Pumpkin Brewing.
In addition to tasting beer and donuts, we discussed favorite breakfast places, great donut shops, the thrill of seeking out rare beers, and came up with some pretty solid beer/donut pairings. I will say, Buckeye Donuts’ maple bacon longjohn + Canadian Breakfast Stout is a winning combination.
