Asian-Inspired Egg Sandwiches and Coffee at VGET Cafe

The Kenny Centre Mall is rife with hidden gems, from unique shops to culinary gems like Xia Xia Chinese Cuisine, ChiliSpot, Mochi Ring, and the whole Japanese Marketplace with winners like Belle’s Bread, Akai Hana, and Tensuke Market.

Tucked into one of the harder-to-find corners, next to a Kung Fu Tea, is a newer cafe called VGET Cafe.

The space is clearly geared more towards carryout. It’s largely empty except for a couple ordering kiosks, a trio of tables, and a small window for food.

The owners said VGET means “making a better life together,” and the phrase is emblazoned in a neon sign near the door.

The beverage menu spans iced coffees, hot and iced lattes, tea, and smoothies. We tried the honeycomb sugar latte and the matcha latte.

One section of the menu is dedicated to Taiwan rice wraps, which are giant wraps of sticky rice, meats, and veggies in seaweed. We tried the signature rice wrap with a shredded dried pork jerky, Chinese pickles, crispy fried dough bits, and lettuce. It’s a curious mix of textures, from the crunchier pork jerky and fried dough bits, plus the softer rice and lettuce.

One of their big features – and certainly ones designed for Instagram – are the Korean egg toasts. They consist of a thick slice of toast cut down the middle and filled to bursting with a layered omelet, meats, cheese, lettuce, then a heavy drizzle of dressings.

We tried the Thai shrimp and egg toast, stuffed with shrimp, eggs, cheddar, and lettuce, then drizzled with a Thai chili sauce.

It should come as no surprise that these are very messy to eat. Overall, the components come together pretty well, although the lettuce gets a bit wilty compressed against the warm ingredients.

We also tasted the New Orleans chicken and egg toast. It features a chicken cutlet, eggs, cheddar, and lettuce, drizzled with mayo and ketchup. The server asked if we wanted the cutlet with skin on or off, suggesting the skin on because it was a little crispier. We didn’t understand that this also meant bone-in! So just a heads up if you’re ordering this toast.

VGET Cafe is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. They’re active on all the delivery platforms, too.
