There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • The owner of SuperChef’s Breakfast & More announced that after 13 years their final Columbus-area restaurant at 1344 Cherry Bottom Rd. in Gahanna will closing after Sunday, Sept. 29. SuperChef’s first started in Louisville, Kentucky before opening two Columbus locations. The first one on East Broad Street downtown shuttered at the end of 2020 as its building was being torn down. Owner Ryan Bryson thanked customers and said he came to the decision to close the Gahanna store while figuring out whether to renew his five-year lease after Oct. 1.
  • The Butcher & Grocer announced this week that their Grandview shop will be closing on Oct. 1 after more than eight years in business. Owner Tony Tanner said in a press release that they will focus on some wholesale but will mainly run their co-packing business for Ohio farmers.
  • Chef and owner Yonder Gordon of Way Down Yonder New Orleans Finest Restaurant announced that the business will be moving from its location on South High Street. Its last day at its current building is this Sunday, Sept. 22. She doesn’t have a new location yet, but she said their food truck will continue operating in the meantime.
  • The old Smith & Wollensky space at Easton has found a new tenant! The news broke this week that Rick Doody, one of the co-owners of Lindey’s in German Village, will open Bar Italia there next year. You can read more details in the Dispatch.
  • Dos Hermanos Tacos opened a new location this week inside the Polaris Fashion Place food court. This makes five locations for the taco shop, which includes stalls at both North Markets, a storefront at Easton, and a taco truck.
  • This past Wednesday a new Indian restaurant called Taj on Fifth opened at 1021 W. Fifth Ave. The restaurant and bar is run by partners that include Ajay Kumar (of the old Taj Mahal) and folks from Everest Cuisine. You can get a full look at Taj on Fifth here!
  • A new eatery called Dahab Restaurant & Café is opening soon at 3708 Fishinger Blvd. in Hilliard.
  • This week Toro Meat Market opened its fourth Columbus location, this one in the former IGA at 704 Parsons Ave.
  • Tune in to the Food Network tonight – Friday, Sept. 20 – to see another Columbus favorite appearing on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Drives: Tommy’s Diner!

There are some great events coming up soon!

  • On Saturday, Sept. 21, you can hit up the stretch of South High Street just south of downtown, for the South High Block Party. Local businesses like Emmett’s Cafe, Law Bird, Daily Growler, Cobra, and Smoked on High will be offering food and drink specials, entertainment, and more.
  • This Sunday, Sept. 22 from 12-5 p.m. is the next Sunday Fundays in Old Worthington. This month it’s Oktoberfest themed, with games, entertainment, and food and drink specials. Yours truly will be slinging hot dogs!
  • That same day is the Go Fourth Block Party in Italian Village. You can enjoy food and drink, music, performers, activities and more at Budd Dairy Food Hall, Seventh Son Brewing, and Habibi Grill.
  • Finally, Tuesday, Sept. 24 is Ohio Pint Day! You can visit participating Ohio breweries to order a beer and purchase a limited edition pint glass, all in support of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association.
