In addition to all the new openings 2024, I think the big theme this was moves and expansions! We saw dozens of established restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops move into new homes or add new locations (check out some of the coffee shops that found new digs here!).
So if you’re curious how Columbus dining grew this year, here’s a look at 14 Columbus restaurants that moved or expanded in 2024!
Long-time fans of The Peanut Shoppe rejoiced when it was given new life by transitioning to new owners and a new location this year. Fortunately, it’s still right downtown on Capitol Square, tucked nicely into a new storefront at Broad and High between Black Kahawa and Three Bites Bakery.

Katalina’s added a third location this year, this one in a stand-alone building on East Main Street in Bexley. They’re serving all their greatest hits like pancake balls, sweet and spicy bacon, Thunderkiss coffee, Mazatlan pork sandwiches – but this store includes a few unique items like purple potato latkes and a shakshuka bagel sandwich.

I think we can always use more Dirty Frank’s, so I welcome expansion from this downtown hot dog joint! Dirty Frank’s actually added a carryout/delivery location in Worthington this year and a whole new store, this one conveniently close to Ohio State’s campus.

Mikey’s also joined campus with a big new bar and pizzeria. They took all their signature over-the-top decor and brought it to a new build just off High Street near WOSU. And that’s not all for Mikey’s this year: they also took over the former Weenie Wonder spaces inside PINS in Dublin and Easton.

High Bank Distillery added a third location this year, too, and this particular spot is (I think) one of their most stunning ones yet. They made their home in the former post office in Uptown Westerville, located comically close to the Anti-Saloon League museum. They’ve rehabbed the space while preserving its details, and even added a basement speakeasy.

In 2024 our beloved Wario’s added another location, and this one closer to home for us! The east coast sandwich shop opened a retro-feeling sandwich shop in Clintonville, in the busy stretch that includes Northstar Cafe, Jeni’s, Hot Chicken Takeover. It’s been a big year for Wario’s: alongside Katalina’s, High Bank, Joya’s, and other shops, it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives!

This year Ray Ray’s made a couple moves and tried something new. First, they moved their truck from Flint Station and parked it in front of Aardvark Wine & Beer (which also added the Dive Baar). After a devastating fire at their west side restaurant a couple years ago, Shakers Public House was forced to regroup and eventually move. They ended up heading to a completely different part of town, transforming the former J&D’s Place in Worthington to a new destination for their famous wings. Fortunately their fans seem to have come along!

We’ve long loved JT’s Pizza & Pub for their wings and their Columbus-style pies. They’ve been bursting at the seams of their Linworth store for years, so it must be a bit of a relief that they expanded to a large, new space in Grandview!
